I did a phone interview with Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey about a half hour ago. He is ecstatic about the gains in the Senate and the House. In my last post, I mentioned that this gave new life to some issues that didn’t have much of a chance before. He mentioned a couple of things he wanted things that would probably have a chance now. Those included “pro-business issues”, 2nd Amendment issues, abortion issues, and illegal immigration issues. He mentioned voter ID specifically and SJR 127. He didn’t forsee any battles with the governor about budget issues, saying that he worked with the governor on the buyout plan.
Just another quick note, a kind commenter pointed out that the governor ’s veto power is very limited in the state. It only takes a simple majority to overturn the veto. The governor has not used that power a lot either. He is holding a news conference about the presidential election this afternoon. I’ll blog more about his take on that race along with his thoughts on this whole shake-up.
