Good for Us, Bad for Them

The August sales tax holiday is rapidly approaching.  Today, the governor says he wished he could “turn it off” this year to help save some jobs.  He said while this holiday is certainly a justifiable one, because it helps parents buy school supplies, it is going to hurt the state.   Typically, people save about 8 to 10 million dollars a year in during a sales tax holiday weekend.  The state does budget to do without that revenue, but the governor says it still hurts little bit.

Remember, the August sales tax holiday is a recurring one, according to state law.  The spring holiday is not.  Unless there’s a  major turnaround, I’m guessing that’s going to be something on the chopping block.
