I will have more information soon, but the state is going to offer buyouts to 11,700 state employees in order to acheive the magic 2000 number. Goetz praised commissioners for doing a “creative” job of finding a way to reduce the workforce without impacting direct services. He feels they are on target to hit the $64 million dollar mark in the budget. A big concern is what happens if more people want to take the buyouts then planned for.
Update: If too many take buyouts, seniority will determine who gets the buyouts. By the way, every employee who is offered a buyout will have to get the ages of everyone in their job classification who is getting the offer and who is not.
Update: Goetz isn’t giving us the breakdown of where those 11,700 offers are going to come from. he says the lawyers have it right now to make sure everything is OK with the package.
